Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is the colocation facility?

A: Downtown Seattle.

Q: Do you limit how much bandwidth a box can use?

A: We do bandwidth shaping to ensure that we are not saddled with an unexpectedly high bill because of a runaway server. However, each server is free to use as much bandwidth as it needs at any given time, within reason and within our ability to pay for it. If a server consistantly consumes over 1mbps for long sustained periods of time, then we would expect the server to cover the cost of the extra bandwidth. In general, we have lots of 'extra' bandwidth which we are paying for but not using, so bandwidth heavy servers are currently not a problem.

Q: How many IP addresses can I have?

A: As many as you can justify. We are not charged for IP addresses, but it may take us a while to get an additional block. So, at any given time, we may have plenty of IPs or we may be tight on IPs until we receive our next allocation.

Q: Do you only accept rack mounted machines?

A: It is up to you to figure out how to mount your machine. It must be mounted. For rackmountable machines, you must have a mounting kit that can mount at a depth of 29 inches. For small, mini-itx boxes we will likely be able to provide a shelf to put your box. Typically, we do not allow regular size desktop or tower cases.

Q: Will your bandwidth shaping slow my traffic down?

A: No. The bandwidth shaping is in place for emergencies. Unless your box is out of control, you should not see any decline in latency our throughput.

Q: What bandwidth provider does SCCP use?

A: Currently, we use swiftco.net.
